A chin augmentation/mentoplasty is a surgical procedure to reshape or enhance the size of the chin. It may be done either by inserting an implant or by moving or reshaping bones. The procedure may be requested by those with a prominent nose or other facial features who wish to create a more proportionate appearance, though the procedure is often used in conjunction with other forms of cosmetic surgery.
Chin augmentation is usually done to balance the face by making the chin longer or bigger compared to the nose. The best candidates for chin augmentation are people with weak or receding chins (microgenia), but who have a normal dental bite.
Before your surgery, discuss your expectations about looking and feeling better with the plastic surgeon. Keep in mind that the desired result is improvement, not perfection.
Chin augmentation is still popular because it’s a relatively easy operation for the patient while producing noticeable changes in the silhouette of the face. This type of surgery is usually performed by a either an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, otolaryngologist, or plastic surgeon.

I had a reconstructive jaw surgery a few months ago, not for self image problems, but because my teeth didn't close together, like they had a gap of over a centimeter all the way around. But after my surgery, I bet my after pictures would have looked really similar to these since they brought my lower jaw forward and my upper forward and down. I used to have a really inward chin, but now I don't. having your chin look more forward also kind of helps with the narrowness of your cheeks.
ReplyDeleteTook me a moment to be able to understand most the remarks, however I really enjoyed the write-up. It proved to be Very beneficial to me and I am certain to all the commenters here! It’s always nice when you can not merely be educated, but also entertained! I am sure you had fun writing this kind of write-up.
ReplyDeletethe only person who looks different is the last one. The others don't look better or worse, they wasted their money. the last girl didn't look so bad before either.
ReplyDeletePeople also say that Maddonna also got a chin implant
ReplyDeleteElevated cholesterol levels are closely associated with heart disease and obesity. It is with high cholesterol starting many of the problems that undermine health. Statistics show that over 30% of the populations are overweight, 45% suffer from high cholesterol, and many more suffer from high blood pressure. On the other hand, only 5 of the population have no idea about healthy eating.
ReplyDeleteWho ever wrote that comment on the girls about them not needing chin implants should get a pair of glasses!! Must be a guy..who wrote that because no woman would be that stupid. The top two girls were slight changes while the bottom was an amazing transformation and absolutely worth while I am sure for these girls to get their confidence back to have this surgery performed and NO they did not waste their money. Plastic Surgery should be treated with respect and not taken lightly for those looking for just wanting to look like a favorite celebrity, but for those who really need it and are prepared to do the research on the doctor who will perform the surgery and his qualifications. Bargain hunting is not the way to go as I have found that out the hard way with my Mother's face lift. You get what you pay for. I had to pay another doctor to repair the work of another surgeon because I thought I was getting a "deal" so in the long run there was NO deal. Good luck to all of you and I suggest you contact the State Board of Plastic Surgeons and find out if any of the Doctors you are thinking of hiring have any pending law suits or complaints agaist them BEFORE you have surgery. This will save you a lot of grief trust me. Mrs. P.V.M>
ReplyDeleteAnyone who doesn't have a severe facial deformity doesn't *need* a chin implant. We need to learn to love ourselves as we are.
DeleteAny Risks of chin augmentation ?
ReplyDeleteThe most common complications of chin augmentation are:
Delete*Bruising
*Movement of the implant
*Swelling
Other possible complications include:
*Damage to the teeth
*Loss of feeling
Rare side effects include:
*Blood clots
*Infection -- sometimes the implant will have to be removed
*Pain that does not go away
*Numbness or other changes in feeling to the skin
Although most patients are happy with the outcome, poor cosmetic results that may need more surgery include:
*Wounds that do not heal well
*Scarring
*Unevenness of the face
*Fluid that collects under the skin
*Irregular skin shape (contour)
Nicotine from smoking can delay healing.
A weak chin can also make a normal nose appear large and an already prominent nose seem even larger. It may also give the appearance of a 'fleshy' neck. On the other hand, a too prominent chin may give the appearance of having too small of a nose or otherwise throwing the face off balance. The end result should be a balanced relationship within the structure of the face. Some patients prefer to have rhinoplasty in conjunction with chin augmentation in order to provide the best facial balance.
ReplyDeletewho are the Ideal Candidate for chin augmentaion ?
ReplyDeleteIn general, the best candidates for chin augmentation are those in good physical and psychological condition, informed about the limitations of the surgery, free of known allergies to the implant material, and realistic in their expectations for the outcome. Chin implants are often recommended to patients undergoing nose surgery to achieve better facial balance. In patients 38-50 years old, cheek implants can improve the mid-facial contour and restore sagging mid-facial soft tissues, thus postponing the need for a facelift.
